I began breeding cannabis out of necessity. When I began growing my headstash it was in a less enlightened time in Canada, and the conservation of favourite finds was essential to have them again, as there wasn’t the availability of genetics available to the home grower that there is today. Growing my own was a passion, and while I couldn’t grow enough bud for everybody who wanted it, I could at least give them twenty seeds and instructions for putting out successful plantings, guerilla style, mainly. I was always happy to get friends growing, and I got more than a few onto that path! Later, while living in Vancouver I ended up donating a jar of the seeds to a prominent activist after he was busted for selling seeds in his shop. Months later, after many positive grower reviews, he asked me to produce “as many as I could”. At the time he was the only person willing to sell seeds worldwide, and I knew it was important for that distribution to continue. The allure of turning a hobby into both a profession and a spearhead of activism was great and I decided to go all in. I knew that legalization would be largely inevitable by the time that the number of people growing cannabis reached a critical mass. The prohibitionists would have to cave as normalization occurred. When the people lead the leaders would have to follow. I believed that legalization was inevitable, but that if I was wrong, I’d have issues. I can’t wait to see the rest of the world liberated and not hassled for their herb gardens.
